Food Packaging Materials Management Problems in Food Safety

[China Packaging Network News] Global management of food packaging materials is a problem in the field of food safety. Unlike contaminants, food additives, etc., the impact of food packaging materials on the food itself or on the health hazards of consumers is indirect. Therefore, in the global context, relative to other fields, the management of the safety of food packaging materials, including the setting of corresponding standards and regulations, and risk assessment work, are all relatively complicated.

Gordon Robertson of the University of Queensland in Australia introduced the global packaging legislation for food materials. He said that food packaging materials is a complex area. There are two modes of global food materials packaging legislation management: the United States and Europe and the United States. The fundamental differences are: the EU does risk management and risk assessment; while the United States only has FDA to fully manage all assessment and risk management issues. The United States is based on dietary exposure management, EU law enforcement is based on material migration.
