A school in Kerala, India
I chose this picture because it is an excellent example. The background of the photo can be known by doing only a few simple investigations. The photograph depicts a scene in a traditional school in India where a Nambodiri boy (priest caste) sings Vedhas (similar to ancient Indian proverbs). This school is not a major attraction. It is not a place for ordinary tourists to visit Kerala. But for me, this is a great opportunity. You may get some interesting and interesting photos. Although the school is far from the city center, I will never walk by chance to go there, but if you know that there is such a place, it is not difficult to find and get a shooting permit.
I know the reason there is very simple - I did a survey, not very detailed, difficult kind. I went to a travel agency and chatted with the staff there. I told them I was a photographer and wanted to see if there were anything interesting or unique in the city. They thought for almost an hour. I got some useful information. This traditional school is one of them. I realized I should go there to see it.
3. Only look at the main attractions
Many tourist destinations have "must-see" and "must-take" major attractions. Sometimes we are eager to shoot these sights, ignoring the surrounding scenery, and not finding them may be as interesting or even worse.
Thinking that I have been forcing myself to observe less obvious scenes over the years, I have a sense of guilt. Sometimes it even makes me stay in one place for an extra day or even two days. I shoot major attractions and then work hard to find topics that are less well-known but still worth a shot. This is how the following photo came from. It was shot in the Brahma National Park.
Indonesia, Java, Brahma National Park
Just a few days before I first arrived there, I shot the same with everyone - the Bromo Volcano at different angles and its nearby peaks. Starting from the third day, I diverted my perspective from the volcanoes and mountains at sunrise, and decided to turn my attention to other topics. I rented a motorcycle and rode all over the area and found a Wrangler walking in the fog and walking on the wasteland of volcanic rock - the perfect scene.
4 ignore the light
Neglecting light means that you simply take a picture of what you see, under any lighting conditions, without considering the overall picture. Your work may occasionally make a deep impression on others, sometimes reflecting your intentions and feelings, but more often than not, they cannot.
Focusing on light means that you understand the effects of different light levels. Understanding how good a photo is depends on the light that you enter when you shoot. Of course, this also means that you can deliberately create some light effects in your photos to reflect your intentions and feelings about the subject.
Let's look at a simple example:
Romania, Transylvania Countryside
The scenery on the photo is so beautiful and lively because the entire picture is shrouded in the golden sunlight at sunrise. I purposely took photos in this light because I knew it would make the scenery lively and every detail was beautiful.
This light allows me to create a picture that is a good reflection of what I want to say - how beautiful the countryside of Transylvania is, and it can become a bridge that connects me to what I feel Excitement. If I shoot in the same scene without considering the light, what I get is undoubtedly a much less photograph. I may take photos when I first saw it. It was a cloudy day. The light at that time made everything look very dark and dead.
