New Polyurethane Foam Degrades Fast

Not long ago, a new type of carbon dioxide-producing polyurethane (PU) foam technology passed the appraisal organized by the State Environmental Protection Administration. This product is used as a buffer packaging material and can be completely biodegraded after disposal. The technology was developed by Jiangsu Yuhua Jinlong Green Chemical Co., Ltd.

According to the company, this technology uses carbon dioxide gas as the main raw material, and adjusts and copolymerizes with epoxide to obtain aliphatic polycarbonate polyols and polyurethane foams. The prepared polyurethane foam can be completely biodegradable without leaving any harmful substances.

According to the data from the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences, the polyurethane foam made from carbon dioxide is degraded by 33% a month, which is superior to the blends of synthetic polymer materials and starch, and has high strength and high modulus.
