US Crompton Company introduced a new chemical structure of PP (polypropylene) nucleating agent/transparence agent Moldpro 931, a melt-blending auxiliary agent, which is more expensive than melt-mixable sorbitol (DBS) type transparent agent or can not be melted and mixed. The organophosphates are much cheaper, with Moldpro 931 at $5/lb and other nucleating agents at $12 to $20/lb.
Moldpro 931 is an FDA-approved product that is odorless and odorless. It crystallizes PP at 129°C, which is comparable to or better than that of DBS products, and can shorten the molding cycle and improve the rigidity of the product. The residual aluminum catalyst content in the PP resin is generally greater than 25PPm. The remaining aluminum will make the transparent agent more effective and effective, but the Moldpro 931 will fail in the presence of stearic acid monoglyceride (GMS).
Moldpro 931 is a gray sheet material with 0.10% to 0.25% of PP. The zero value of gas-phase PP added is 39% to 55%, which is better than benzoate transparent agent (63% of zero value). However, a new generation of DBS-based clearing agent (with a zero value of 12% to 27%) was found. According to Crompton, the PP homopolymer with Moldpro 931 has a high rigidity of 25% and the PP copolymer has a high stiffness of 19%.
