Sharing of Scanners in Prepress Publishing Network System (I)

In the prepress publishing system, the scanner is generally installed on a microcomputer. When a computer equipped with a scanner is undergoing other prepress processing, it cannot scan images. If multiple scanners can share the scan Instrument, will greatly improve the efficiency of the use of the system. With the popularization and promotion of network technology in the prepress publishing system, scanner sharing must be considered. In the prepress publishing network system, the shared scanner can provide great convenience for prepress image processing, especially for the local area network system with large network system and large image processing volume. In addition, for the use of high-end professional scanners, by implementing a shared scanner in the network, significant savings can be achieved without affecting the efficiency of image processing.

To achieve the sharing of the scanner among multiple microcomputers, there must be two preconditions: 1 The network must be networked between multiple PCs that need to share the scanner; 2 The purchased scanners must ensure that the driver provides network services. For example, the Umax Astra 1220S scanner driver provides a network service function. After the Umax Astra 1220S scanner is installed on a computer on the network, other users on the network can share the driver by installing the driver. The scanner. Here, using Windows 98 as the operating system platform, using the Umax Astra 1220S scanner as an example, briefly introduce the installation method of the shared scanner in the prepress publishing network system.

The installation steps of the shared scanner in the prepress publishing network system are as follows:

1. Install scanning software

1 Start the computer, insert the scanner installation CD into the CD-ROM drive (can be any CD-ROM drive on the network), run the "SETUP" file in the root directory of the CD-ROM, and enter the "UMAX Scanner CD Setup" installation interface. Out of all the programs to be installed, follow the prompts during installation.

2 When the installer runs to the Install Language Selection Version window, select the Install Simplified Chinese version option.

3 When the installation program runs to the "Installation Type" selection window, there are two installation methods: "Typical Installation" and "Custom Installation". If you need to implement a shared scanner, you must select "Custom Installation". As shown in Figure 1.

4 When the installer runs into the Software Selection window, the VistaScan Network Manager option must be selected, as shown in Figure 2.

5 When the installer runs to the "Please select the part you want to install" window, you must select the "Network Manager" option.

6 The next installation can be completed by following the prompts. After restarting the computer, you can see the "VistaScan32" program group on the desktop, "Network Scanner Administrator" and "Network Scanner Server" in the program group. The two programs are key programs for the shared scanner, as shown in Figure 3.
