(2) The sample cannot consume or release iodine. There are eight types of substances that mainly have side reactions and interference.

1. Salts, hydroxides and oxides.

Ca (OH) 2 H2SO4 → CaSO4 H2O

MgO HI → MgI2 H2

There are also some substances that can also cause side reactions, such as:

Ag2O, HgO, MnO2, PbO, PbO2 and ZnO

2. Ketones and aldehydes

These two types of compounds will combine with the methanol in the Kaplan reagent to form ketals and acetals and release water. Such substances are generally not easy to determine by the Karl Coulomb method.

3. Strong acid and strong acid will react with methanol in the Kaskov reagent to release water

2CH3OH H2SO4 → (CH3O) SO2 H2O

CH3OH HOOCH → CH3O-OCH H2O

4. The silanol group at the silanol / silicone terminal and the methanol in the Karl Fischer reagent are lipidated to produce water.

5. The metal peroxide reacts with the Karl Fischer reagent to produce water.

6. Substances that consume iodine, such substances will react with the iodine in the Kaskov reagent. This results in a high moisture content, such as iron salts, ketone salts, and thiosulfate salts.

7. Strong oxidant The reaction of this kind of substance in the Kaussian reagent will generate iodine element, resulting in a low moisture content in the test.

In industrial products, the eight categories listed above are only a small part of a wide variety of substances, and most of them can be determined by the Karl Coulomb method.
