Researchers have developed super durable new glass that can be used for thousands of years
According to a statement from the University of Chicago, understanding how to make extremely stable, mature glass can help researchers create stronger materials. The stable glass manufacturing technology can also make the molecular structure of the drug without crystals, so it can be dissolved more quickly in the body.

This glass manufacturing method is different from the manufacturing of vases and juice glasses. Household glassware is made by pouring molten glass into a model and cooling it. But Mark Ettinger, a chemist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, made new glass by heating the glass to a gaseous state, and then letting the gas deposit layer by layer onto a hard surface. The result is a stronger, dense material that can withstand higher temperatures than glass made by traditional methods.
Edinger made this new glass for the first time a few years ago, and discovered its unique characteristics. However, he was never sure whether he made an evolved ordinary glass or a completely new material. So he collaborated with Pablo, a PhD student in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin, to write a computer program to confirm his research.
This program simulated the process of steam stratification and found that he did create a super stable new glass. Compared with the new glass, the traditional method of glass has a messy and uneven structure. This program also helped Pablo and his team understand how the different arrangements of glass molecules cause differences in strength between traditional glass and super glass.
