Creative small production: 3D printing cute joint doll "frog"

If you are a 3D printing enthusiast, you may have heard of a lady named Louise Driggers. The lady from Richmond, Texas, has designed several open source 3D printing model collections that are widely distributed on the Internet.

Recently, Driggers has launched a very fun 3D printing design, which is a frog doll composed of spherical joints, which Driggers calls "Froggy". The frog is made up of 42 different parts, many of which do not need to be supported for printing.

“This frog is my first spherical joint doll,” Driggers said. “I have always been fascinated by these dolls, but their prices are too high in the store. Once I saw Sonia Verdu uploading online. The pretty female robot even Robotica, it inspired me. So I decided to print my own doll in 3D. Although this frog is not related to Sonia's work in design, I still want to thank Sonia because if there is no her work For reference, I might have to spend more time designing these frogs."

In February of this year, Driggers produced the first prototype of these joint frogs. Then she took the dolls to Chicago and gave them to two prostitutes. I got some feedback and based on these feedback she was ready to make some changes. The original frog was designed to be more like a real frog, but she decided to modify the design to make it look more like a person from a gesture. Thus, the modified frog can stand, sit down, bend over, and its head can rotate like a human head.

Just now we said that this frog is full joint. It is true that all the joints in the frog are movable, including even his fingers, and even the eyeball can rotate!

Driggers recommends that all parts be set to a layer height of 0.2 mm and a fill rate of 5% when printing. If your 3D printer does not have a hot bed, apply a little Elmer glue to the print platform to help the part secure. However, it should be noted that when all the parts are printed, it takes a little time to assemble, because in order to make the doll move and keep the posture better, you need to string all the parts together with a rope.

"How do you string this doll depends on what effect you want to achieve," Driggers said. "If you want the frog to keep a posture, not a soft one, then you can string it tightly. Remember, if your rope is too tight, it may cause its limbs to stretch. These need you. I am slowly exploring, but it is not too difficult."
