New food packaging has moisture-proof effect

Appleton Corporation has developed a kind of linerboard for the outer layer of corrugated paper that is suitable for food packaging and can play a role in moisture-proofing. This product, known as Moisture Bloc for Corrugated, is fully repulpable and 100% recyclable. It represents a major breakthrough in barrier packaging. The company said that cartons that provide a barrier against moisture damage contain wax and polyethylene coatings that prevent them from being easily recycled.

The corrugated moisture-proof panel adopts the patented cladding technology that is being applied, and can provide long-term moisture protection and crack resistance. Steve Sakai, vice president of packaging performance, said: “Our products can run smoothly on existing conveyors because it is exactly the same as the old corrugated boxes.” The old corrugated boxes consist of kraft paperboard and cardboard. Crumpled paper made from recycled waste.
