12.3 Placing ICC Profiles

When color management is allowed, GDI uses the following steps to query an appropriate ICC profile:

1. If the driver's printer interface DLL provides a DrvQueryColorProfile function, the GDI client calls that function with the driver an opportunity to specify the profile. If the function returns a profile, it is used.

2. If DrvQueryColorProfile does not exist or does not return a profile, GDI queries the profile of the color directory that is already installed for a particular printer type. GDI uses the profile of precision, media type, and jitter in the first matching DEVMODE structure it finds.

3. If the color directory does not contain any profile of a specific printer type and matches the specified DEVMODE content, GDI uses the system default sRGB profile.

12.4 Installing ICC Profiles

To install ICC Profiles for a printer, the files must be listed in the printer.inf file.

The following is an example of an .inf file that causes two ICC profiles to be installed. But note that the profile file written for the color directory has a printer DIRID value of 66003.
