There's no denying that 3D printing has revolutionized the creative process, especially for artists pushing the boundaries of imagination. For Alterton Bizarre, a freelance sculptor with a decade of experience in the comics industry, this technology opened up an entirely new world of possibilities. Starting out as a traditional sculptor, he worked with major brands like Marvel Comics, Transformers, and Gears of War, and later transitioned into digital art. Now, he sees 3D printing as the future of his craft.
Recently, Hollywood Collectibles Group (HCG), a renowned name in the statue industry, reached out to him for a special project. They asked him to design a 1:4 scale model for the "Heavy Metals magazine cover girl series." Heavy Metals is a legendary American comic magazine with nearly 50 years of history, known for its bold and provocative artwork.
To bring these stunning, ultra-feminine characters to life, Alterton used ZBrush, a popular 3D modeling software. Once the digital models were complete, he collaborated with a 3D printing service called OWNAGE to produce the physical prototypes. "I don’t have any experience with 3D printers or the technology itself," he admitted, "so I rely on them to handle the printing process. I just focus on creating the models."
After the 3D prints were finished, they were sent to HCG for approval and then to a mold manufacturer for casting. The final step involved expert painters Jeff Camp and Fred DiSantos, who added the finishing touches to bring the figures to life. The result is a breathtaking collection of lifelike, sexy beauties that capture the essence of Heavy Metals' iconic cover girls.
