Water supply engineering and drainage engineering construction methods for tennis courts

I. Construction Method of Water Supply System for Tennis Courts

Tennis courts require a quiet, clean, and dust-free environment to ensure optimal playing conditions. In addition to natural grass fields that need regular watering, all types of tennis courts should be equipped with adequate water supply systems to support both maintenance and daily use. Venues with the necessary infrastructure should have sufficient tap water outlets installed for easy access. The layout of rotating nozzles and the water pipe network is illustrated in Figure 5.6 below. The depth at which water pipes are buried should be below the perennial frost line in the region, based on local frost damage conditions in China. To ensure proper water flow, the water supply network should be designed with a natural slope. A backwater interceptor must be installed at the lowest point of the slope, allowing the management team to control shallow water levels. This was a critical lesson learned from a university site where design errors in the backwater interception gate led to frozen and cracked water supply pipes.

II. Drainage Construction Methods for Tennis Courts

In the drainage system of tennis courts, surface runoff is primarily managed through cross-slopes on the ground. The design of these slopes should not exceed 0.5% to ensure efficient water flow. Water is collected through open drains that run around the perimeter of the court and then directed into the municipal drainage system. The main drainage layout is shown in Figure 5.7.1. Typically, the center of the court is the highest point, while the drainage ditches are located outside the fence and covered with cast iron grates. This setup ensures effective water removal and prevents water accumulation on the playing surface.
